The Friends challenge YOU to be a voice for DC Youth Court!

The following message was posted on the Time Dollar Youth Court's home page:
SAVE YOUTH COURT!!!
We have been denied funding for the next fiscal year. Unless action is taken, we will be FORCED TO SHUT DOWN OCTOBER 1st

During these bleak economic times, hard decisions have to be made by the Mayor about how to spend DC dollars; however, we need a commitment to our youth.

We are asking you to contact the Mayor and your councilmember IMMEDIATELY and tell them to save Youth Court. To contact the Mayor’s Office, call 311 or (202) 727-2980. All councilmember’s contact information can be found here.

This program, authorized by the Washington D.C. Superior court is a program that allows youth offenders to be tried by a jury of their peers.  The offender is questioned by the jury and the parent/guardian is also allowed to express their feelings.  As many of us are aware of the premise of youth court, probably the most notable milestone of all these cases is that it allows our youth to see the damage they are doing to themself and holds them accountable for each other as they hear cases, try the offender, and sentence them appropriately.  In the words of the youth court, it is an opportunity for "Reallocating a youth's early encounter with the law into a turning point in their life."

It is of note to look at those who benefit from the program.  It is a community effort, a community resolve, and a link in the disconnected chain that separates all of us from the struggles of our young people.  The Time Dollar Youth Court is taking donations on their page.

What are you using your voice for?  If you have time to openly and publicly criticize and/or glorify celebrities in the news, use your voice for something useful.  There are many issues that we can use our voices for.  Take a moment and make a donation, contact a local councilman as listed below, or simply spread the word.  Many small actions WILL equal a big change that is needed.  Use your voice for something and someone that needs you today.

Every parent, school, church, community organization, and others are trying to figure out what we need to do save our youth.  We can all be a collective solution to the problem.  Let's start by supporting a cause that has PROVEN itself already.

If this program had saved your child, or if you had a child that could utitlize this program instead of being sent to jail as a minor-would it mean more to you?

There is a time to HAVE Friend's and there is a time to be a Friend!
